Autonomous Energy Solution Ecore One Commissioned

Joint Press Release by Infener and Primeo Energie

Münchenstein / Munich, April 3, 2025 – The Science and Experience Center Primeo Energie Kosmos has officially put the Ecore One into operation, an innovative plug-and-play solution for the autonomous supply of electricity and heat based on hydrogen. Thanks to the collaboration between Infener and ostermeier H2ydrogen Solutions, renewable solar energy can be stored in the form of green hydrogen, potentially enabling the 800 m² Primeo Energie Kosmos to be supplied with CO₂-neutral green energy all year round.

Cédric Christmann, CEO of Primeo Energie, emphasizes: “The energy future starts now. With the Ecore One, we are setting a milestone for sustainable and self-sufficient energy supply. Primeo Energie Kosmos is the ideal location to make innovative technologies tangible and demonstrate how renewable energy can be intelligently stored and used.”

Joel Vogl, CEO and co-founder of Infener, adds: “Battery storage systems often only cover short-term energy needs. The Ecore One, however, stores excess solar power from summer and makes it available in winter. This not only ensures a reliable energy supply but also reduces dependence on fossil fuels. With this commissioning at Primeo Energie Kosmos, we are demonstrating the crucial role hydrogen plays in a decentralized and renewable energy system.”

Switzerland recently introduced its national hydrogen strategy, identifying green hydrogen as a key component for decarbonizing industry, heavy transport, and energy storage. The Ecore One fits perfectly into this strategy: it stores surplus renewable energy as hydrogen and provides it as electricity and heat when needed—an ideal solution for sustainable energy planning in cities, municipalities, and businesses. The Ecore One integrates multiple energy technologies into a single system, including an electrolyzer, fuel cell, battery, compressor, and heat pump, all managed by an integrated energy management system.

The commissioning of the Ecore One at Primeo Energie Kosmos, in combination with the flexibility platform equalio.com, also serves as a test phase for the development of an innovative energy management system that leverages dynamic energy pricing. By adjusting energy consumption flexibly to variable electricity rates, this system optimizes costs, reduces grid strain, and contributes to grid stability through load shifting and balancing power.

The Ecore One installed at Primeo Energie Kosmos has an electrolyzer capacity of 10 kilowatts (kW), a fuel cell of 8 kW, and a battery capacity of 13 kilowatt-hours (kWh). It draws energy from an external PV system and, depending on the size of the PV installation, storage capacity, and electricity and heat demand, can enable complete energy self-sufficiency. The Ecore One's output is flexibly adjustable. This system has been awarded the German Innovation Award and two Red Dot Awards. Its design was developed by N+P Innovation Design. It was first presented at ees Europe 2024.
