Münchenstein, 25 November 2024: The members of EBM (Genossenschaft Elektra Birseck) have elected the new assembly of delegates. For the next four years, it consists of 216 elected representatives. Of these, 141 are current delegates and 75 are newly elected delegates. The assembly of delegates is completed by 118 representatives of public and private corporate clients and the nine members of the Board of Directors. The assembly of delegates is the supreme body of the EBM cooperative.
Since its founding in 1897, EBM has been a cooperative organised under civil law. It and its associated companies do business with customers under the name Primeo Energie. The cooperative currently has more than 58,000 members, making it one of the largest cooperatives in Switzerland. Since it is not feasible to hold a general assembly with so many members, they elect their delegates in accordance with the statutes every four years. The constituencies are the 73 municipalities in the network area of Primeo Energie. 25 of the 73 municipalities are in the canton of Basel-Landschaft, 36 in the canton of Solothurn and 12 in Alsace.
In 62 municipalities, no more candidates were proposed for election than there are delegates to be elected. Consequently, the Board of Directors declared all proposed candidates to be elected unopposed.
In the municipalities of Arlesheim, Biel-Benken, Binningen, Breitenbach, Brislach, Büren, Hofstetten-Flüh, Metzerlen-Mariastein, Münchenstein, Reinach and Witterswil, there were more candidates than available seats. A total of 71 candidates were proposed for the 55 seats in these 11 municipalities. The necessary election of the delegates was carried out under the supervision of the Board of Directors. A central election office set up by the Board and headed by Claudia Gehrig, Binningen, monitored the voting and determined the election results on 22 November. The voter turnout was 13.0 (2016: 16.7) per cent.
The EBM Assembly of Delegates now comprises a total of 343 (previously: 333) members. The new Assembly of Delegates for the 2025–2028 term of office consists of 216 elected delegates. Of these, 141 are incumbents and 75 are new. The assembly of delegates is completed by 118 representatives of public and private corporate customers and the nine members of the Board of Directors. The election protocols of the individual municipalities will be sent to all candidates and the respective municipal council for public display in the next few days. Cooperative members can also view the election protocols at Primeo Energie. Any complaints about the conduct of the election must be submitted to EBM for the attention of the Board of Directors by registered letter, with reasons, within three days of the discovery of the grounds for the complaint, but no later than 9 December 2024 (postmarked). After the Board of Directors has confirmed the election in mid-December 2024, members of the cooperative can obtain the list of delegates from Primeo Energie or download it from the homepage www.primeo-energie.ch.
